Aim of the course: Students in this course will understand the nature of matter and energy and the interactions between them. In doing so they will gain an appreciation of the scientific process that has resulted in the body of knowledge that we have today.

Students will use conceptual and physical models to understand natural events and utilize critical thinking skills and the scientific method to solve problems.

Students will use mathematical tools to solve scientific problems, create graphs and interpret graphed data.

Textbook:Florida Chemistry, McGraw Hill,  2019 (available through the student portal)

Supplies needed: Students need a spiral-bound notebook or composition notebook, a folder with loose-leaf lined paper, pens, pencils and a calculator.

Grades are based on class-work, homework, lab reports and tests.  Each assignment is worth one grade; lab grades are doubled; test-grades will be doubled or tripled. A science current event will be due about every two weeks.
