• The School Brazilian Carnival Wins

Best  Brazilian Community Event in the USA

The Brazilian Club of Miami Beach Senior High School was recognized by the Media and Cultural Leaders of the Brazilian Community in the United States for its outstanding contribution for the Brazilian Culture. The Brazilian Carnival Show, an yearly event at the school, was competing with eight other cultural events throughout the United States for " 2008 Oustanding Brazilian Community Event".

On May 10th 2008, Mrs. Anete Arslanian, founder and sponsor of the Brazilian Club along with Brazilian club members received a trophy at the XI Annual International Press Award ceremony at Parker Playhouse in Ft. Lauderdale for winning the category for community event with the School Brazilian Carnival Show.

Mrs. Arslanian initiated this school tradition eleven years ago, which also awarded her the Key of the City of Miami Beach for the show’s success in 2005. The show is one of the most popular in the school according to students and teachers. Approximately one thousand people attend the show.
The show consists of a local Brazilian band, Miss Carnival Contest as well as a teachers dancing contest called “Dancing With the Staff”, folkloric dances performed by the students and professional dancers and costume parades. According to Mrs. Arslanian there is so much to learn from this experience; the club members get hands on experience in organizing a show for one thousand participants, students and staff learn about Brazilian heritage dances and songs, and last but not least, the school learns about acceptance of cultural diversity.
