    Senior College Application:
     Fifty-two one-year college scholarships ( 12 at 2,000 and forty at 1,000) are awarded to graduating senior class members of the Hispanic Honor Society enrolled in Spanish classes. Scholarship awards will be mailed directly to the colleges selected by the winners during the summer of 2011. The scholarship cannot be postponed until 2012. If a student is not planning to attend a college or university in the fall of 2011, the scholarship will be forfeited and another student will be selected.
     
    Please note: ONLY ONE APPLICATION PER CHAPTER IS ALLOWED.
     
    SENIOR REQUIREMENTS:
    1. Submit a DVD in Spanish in which you:
    -Discuss with your teacher the following topic: What has the study of Spanish meant to you? Has it changed your attitude towards the world? If there is a specific personality whose work inspired you, it would be appropriate to integrate this into your conversation.
     
    -are spontaneous and conversational in tone.
    ( the student should be the dominant speaker.)
     
    -speak with your teacher a maximum of 5 minutes without stopping recording.( Both student and teacher should be visible in the DVD.)
     
    2. One persuasive essay in Spanish of no more than two typewritten, double-spaced pages in which you explore one of the following topics:
    - As you look forward to the future how will knowing a second language impact your life and allow you to contribute to the community in which you live and society as a whole?
    - React to the statement. Life is enriched by the understanding of other cultures.Using examples, explain your understanding of this statement.
     
    3. Send a copy of your official school transcript and academic work in progress. ( Ask sponsor for more details)
     
    4. On a separate, word processed or typed page, list organizations to which you belong, honors received and offices held.
     
    5. Include a page signed letter of recommendation from your Spanish teacher which validates your ability and performance in the study of Spanish.
     
    6. Include a one page letted signed recommendation letter from either your principal, guidance counselor, or a teacher other than your Spanish teacher.
     
    (ALL ITEMS MUST BE MAILED TOGETHER, ASK SPONSOR FOR MORE DETAILS)
     
    JUNIORS YOUR SCHOLARSHIP IS CALLED:
    THE BERTIE GREEN TRAVEL AWARDS
     
    Twenty four (24) travel awards to Argentina through a commercial study/travel group.
    Ask sponsor for more details.
     
    REQUIREMENTS:
    1. Standard DVD in Spanish in which you:
    -discuss both of the following topics: how you believe the trip will change you and why you feel the committee should award you the trip since there are many qualified applicants.
    - are spontaneous and conversational tone.
    ( The teacher should ask questions which help the student to be the dominant speaker)
    speak with the teacher a maximum of 5 minutes without stopping recording.
    ( Both student and teacher should be visible in the DVD.)
     
    2. One essay in Spanish, no more than two typed, double-spaced pages in which you pick one of the following topics: Identify and investigate an aspect of Argentine culture and tell why you would explore this if you had the opportunity to visit th country.
    OR
    Identify one Argentine personality ( living or dead) with whom you would like to visit and tell what you would like to discuss and why.
    ( Sponsor must sign the essay certifying it is student work)
     
    3.High School transcript an list of extracurricular activities.
     
    4. Two letters of recommendation.
    Letter one from your Spanish teacher commenting on your skills in Spanish and your motivation for the studies.
    Letter two from someone outside the family who know knows you enough to comment on your ability to get along with others and adapt to inforseen circumstances.
