Beach High's teams have continued to participate in The National Ocean Sciences Bowl Competitions, placing in the top ten for the past three years, 2009-2011.
Beach High's 2008 National Ocean Sciences Bowl Team placed 2nd in the Florida Regional Manatee Bowl taking place at Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute in Ft. Pierce, Florida this past March. The Beach team was the top scorer from Dade County, beating teams from MAST and Palmetto.Team members were rewarded with an ocean day trip aboard a research clipper ship in April along with the top four finishing teams. Members included Andy Bass (Captain), Kyle Rego, Maurice Oxios, Daniel Mejido, and Taylor Calibo.
Beach High's 2007 National Ocean Sciences Bowl Team placed fifth in the Florida Regional Manatee Bowl held at MAST Academy and UM on February 23rd and 24th. Members of the team included Andrew Bass, Michael Mazer, Sigfried Bilstein, David Weithorn, and Talia Robledo-Gil. Team members, accompanied by Mr. Guthrie, attended a Friday evening BBQ, and climbed steadily through the Saturday morning elemination rounds. Despite their valiant efforts, the team was finally eleminated in the final rounds, placing fifth out of sixteen teams.
Beach High's 2005-2006 National Ocean Sciences Bowl Team placed second in state competition held at UM. Members of that year's team included Mikhael Breiterman-Loader, Daniel Klein, Joe Reilly, Daniel Reilly, and Edmund Fernandez. For information on joining the team, see Mr. Guthrie.
